Morgan and Henry Join Dairy Leaders to Advocate for Vermont Agriculture

Representative Michael Morgan and House candidate Josie Henry joined dairy farmers and agricultural leaders this week for a roundtable on Vermont’s dairy industry.

Participants included Lieutenant Governor John Rogers, Agriculture Secretary Anson Tebbetts, the Deputy Secretary of the Agency of Natural Resources, Dairy Farmers of America board members, USDA representatives, Vermont legislators, and dairy producers.

Convened by Morgan, the discussion gave farmers a chance to speak candidly about the impacts of recent processing facility closures and the challenges they face trying to keep Vermont agriculture competitive going forward.

Concerns included regulatory costs, permitting delays, milk pricing pressures, workforce shortages, and lack of higher agricultural education opportunities within the state.

Morgan and Henry came away from the dialogue with these legislative priorities:

• Strengthen family farm competitiveness.

• Streamline permitting and reduce unnecessary regulation.

• Support practical environmental stewardship.

• Expand agricultural education and workforce development.Keep lawmakers connected to affected communities.
